The 2017 Festival took place over the weekend of July 14th to 16th in Hythe Village. Of course some of the well loved regulars were back but the Family Fun Day on the Saturday had a completely new look to it, with most of the events taking place on The Promenade. Once again thanks to our sponsors all the events were free to attend. Below is a flavour of what took place.
FRIDAY July 14th – Cavalier Jazzmen – traditional Jazz at its best from these Festival Regulars.
This event was sponsored by Hythe & Dibden Parish Council
SATURDAY July 15th – Family Fun at the Seaside on Hythe’s Promenade. Puppets, dancers, singers, music, Punch & Judy, face-painting, street entertainers, craft activities and much more, all day, all free.
Children’s entertainment from Mortimer Sparks in the afternoon and open air theatre early evening from Point Youth Theatre. The day ended with music from the ‘Doodle Cats’ and ‘Blast Drummers’.
SUNDAY July 16th – Festival Worship Service and New Forest Brass on The Promenade. In the morning Hythe Churches came together for an open air service led by the Rev Eddie Boon from Cornerstone URC Church. Then in the afternoon brass band music at it’s best from this well know local band. During their break there was a performance by young dancers from DanceWise Studio.
FESTIVAL FRINGE – Other events and attractions as part of the Festival Fringe took place over the week end; including an exhibition at The Grove entitled ‘Gardens from Capabilty Brown in the Area; creative writing and drawing workshops at Hythe Library, along with the launch of their Children’s Summer Reading Challenge – ‘Animal Agents’; many of the shops had special attractions and displays. There was also a shop window treasure hunt for children.
