Evening Concerts

This year the Festival had 3 evening concerts, including open air jazz.

Wednesday July 13th – The first concert was held in All Saints’ Church, Dibden. This lovely small church has excellent acoustics and the audience were delighted by a selection of light classics and songs from the shows. The 5 piece Southampton Brass Ensemble were joined by The Songbirds to present a most enjoyable evening of Music.

Thursday July 14th – ‘Good Evening Folk’ saw three very varied groups playing to a packed hall. Marchwood Prelude, a community orchestra playing specially arranged pieces to suit the players’ abilities; Southampton Folk Orchestra, an open access group who play tradition folk music with links to the local area and The Guv’nars, a 5 piece band playing a lively mix of blues and rock – quite contrasting styles. They then all came together for a rousing finale which resulted in tumultuous applause.

Friday July 15th – saw a return of the ever popular Cavalier Jazzmen, this year joined by a singer. They played their own inimitable style of jazz in an open air concert in the gardens behind The Grove – a lovely setting at the back of the Parish Offices and running down to Southampton Water. The audience brought their own chairs along with a picnic supper to eat while they listened to the music.
